THE HISTORIAN
My name is Sam, I attended the University of California. I had majored in the major of History to become a who I am now, a historian. Throughout my whole experience as a historian, I have visited Maya cave sites where they would practice their rituals, or serve their religious purposes.
1. The Mayans practiced rituals at their at their ceremony sites, where there are sculptures and paintings The Mayas worshiped many, even hundreds of gods. The Maya religion was made up of thirteen heavens and nine underworlds rules by nine lords or knights. They think that they should believe in heavens so the Mayans wouldn't go to the underworlds. In the ceremony, the gods had to do an animal sacrifice in rituals. They sacrificed turkeys, dogs, squirrels, quail and iguana. They also had a human sacrifice that were in some rituals. Animal sacrifices were more common than human sacrifices in most rituals performed. This leads into our daily lives because we practice and also do some of the same rituals that the Mayans did in the 2000 BC.
2. Our religion and the Mayan religion have similar beliefs. Our religions are alike because we do some similar rituals. We have a lot of religion stories also which the Mayan's told time and time again. One other thing the two religions have in common is that we both have paintings and sculptures. The reason why the Mayans had sculptures and paintings is because it represented religion matters, or showing how strong they are, showing the power of their gods and lords. The Mayan's worshiped many gods, but in our religion we only represent one type of god. The Mayan's thought it would be good to worship many gods to show their goods loyalty and the power they have. The Mayan's also have thirteen heavens, and to us we have one heaven. Mayan's lived in a swampy jungle environment where they prayed or had ceremonies. The Christian religion lives in a highland where we pray or have ceremonies.
3. Maya believed that there had been several previous cycles of world creation and destruction. The most popular one of the two myths was called the "Hero Twin". The two twins were trapped in the underworld, but through a series of tricks the twins defeated the gods, and escaped. The gods of the underworlds found out they escaped so they revealed a message to the sky by stars. Religion was the basis of the classic Maya culture. The way this impacts our lives is because the Spanish encountered with the Mayan religions. When they came they were looking for gold and silver, but did not find any. The Spanish spread Christianity among the Mayan religion. We inherit some of the same rituals and ways that they do their religious rituals.
